FAQ

Is TEDx and TED the same thing?

Not exactly. TEDx is an independently organized TED licensed event.
More info here: TEDx brings the spirit of TED’s mission of ideas worth spreading to local communities around the globe. TEDx events are organized by curious individuals who seek to discover ideas and spark conversations in their own community. TEDx events include live speakers and recorded TED Talks, and are organized independently under a free license granted by TED.

What is Wonderland?

Wonderland is this year’s theme. TEDx Themes are purposefully broad, abstract and open to interpretation. For example, last year’s theme, Lighthouse, was about finding your way in the world, and how we all shine brighter together.

This year’s theme, Wonderland, is all about limitless possibilities. Wonderland is a place where assumptions are challenged and imagination is ignited. We are hoping that everyone attending will discover their own wonderland and be able to relive the experience for the rest of their lives.

Can I know the topic of the talks beforehand?

No, that’s half the fun. An element of a TEDxStockholm event, is the element of surprise. Our Speakers Team have combed through countless applications and selected a wide variety of topics and speakers coming from all walks of life. We aim to always provide a wide-range of topics to open your horizons and stimulate your brain.

Ok, can I at least know the speakers beforehand?

Not for the time being. As we get closer and closer, we will start revealing some of the names of our speakers. However, it important to remember that TED talks are not so much about the messenger as it is about the message itself. Sometimes the most amazing insights come from the most unexpected places.

How many Talks will there be?

We aim to accommodate between 8 and 10 speakers. There will also be musical guests, entertainment, short films and plenty of time to stretch your legs, eat and mingle.

Will the entire event be in English?

Yes. Even though we are proud of being from Stockholm, we also aim to influence the world. Having our talks in English means that we can engage a wider audience and make it easier for our ideas to travel globally.

Will I have time to mingle?

YES! There will be plenty of time during the intermissions to walk around, explore the space and meet other attendees. Some common conversation starters at TEDxStockholm are: “Hi, So how awesome was that last speaker?” or “Did you also get goose bumps at that last speech?”

Will I have time to sneak out for a cigarette?

If you really need to smoke, then yes. You will find a designated place to light up outside. Please remember to pick up the bud afterwards!

I’ve purchased a ticket but realized that something more important came up, can I get a refund?

Unfortunately the tickets are non-refundable. In the unlikely event that you cannot attend, you may however transfer the ticket to someone else. Our events tend to sell out, so it will not be hard to find someone to take your place.

Are there designated seats?

Seating is arranged on a first-come-first-serve basis. To get the best seat, we invite you to come early. During breaks and intermissions, we kindly ask you to leave some sort of seat marker to remind you of your seat and to let others know that the seat is taken. It’s frowned upon to take someone else’s seat in the middle of the event. Really, don’t do it. This year, the event is at the Waterfront conference center which is complete with comfortable seating and a great view of the stage.

I don’t want my picture taken or my image used for any TEDx promotional material. Can I object?

We believe that you are entitled to your privacy and your image should not be used in a way that you do not agree with. However, TEDx events are recorded, and there will be plenty of photographers to capture unique moments. The images and video captured by TEDx staff will solely be used for promoting TEDx and TEDxStockholm activities. We will not sell the footage to third parties. If you notice your image being used in a way that you do not deemed appropriate, please get in contact with TEDxStockholm directly, and we will do our best to accommodate your request.
